Mr. Louis MONTHULET and SOCQUET-JUGLARD family founded the company SMPI, which name is a French acronym for "Société de Mécanique et de Plastiques Industriels". The main activity of the company hasn't changed actually. It always consists in studying and manufacturing premium tools in order to manufacture in mass production, very accurate and technical parts made of plastic.
1959
The very first part manufactured out of the SMPI workshop was a spur gear with overmolded shaft for Philips electric shaver
At that time, our injection machines were vertical with brands like REP, BOY, PIESTER or MARTINAND
1965
The sixties mark the beginning of our reputation in the field of gears with the manufacturing of first helical gears, worms, worm-gears and toothed rotor of potentiometers for electronics (modulus of 0,2 mm).
Purchase of first horizontal injection machines branded Netstal Neomat (Swiss made injection machine)
1976
Purchase of first Netstal Sycap CNC-controlled injection machines. Set up of a Quality department in charge of product inspection but also already involved in the organization of work. The Quality assurance and ISO Quality standards didn't exist at that time yet.
1979
Purchase of a first jig grinding machine branded HAUSER Sm
Deployment of CNC machines
in Mechanics and Plastics processing workshops
1991
SMPI buys SEMOS, a company dedicated to production on vertical injection machines
1993
SMPI organization does comply with ISO 9002 standard and SMPI receives the Rhône-Alpes Quality award
1995
SMPI already complies with North American car makers standards such as Ford Q1. These standards will result later on into QS9000 then ISO TS 16949 standards.
1996
Building of a new production premises and grouping into a single plant of all SMPI activities.
1997
Merge between SMPI & Bailly-Comte, a leading company in plastics processing for carmakers.
1998
SMPI diversifies its activities and starts to produce gearbox housings
Focus of SMPI activities on automotive market The 2000s mark the advent of 100% automatic production processes. From that time, not a single part is managed after ejection of the mold by gravity. 100% of our injection machines are then fitted with a robot.
2006
Purchase of a first fully electric injection machine branded JSW which since has become our standard.
ITWSmpi stops the development of gearbox housings that are not sufficiently differentiated products and focuses back on its historical product line : gears.
